Excited to announce a pretty groovy concert at Disney Hall.
I’m re-cutting vintage documentary films of Thelonious Sphere Monk in counterpoint to the endlessly inventive arrangements of John Beasley’s MONK’estra at the LA Philharmonic.
MONK’estra are multi-Grammy nominees and stellar instrumentalists, and they’ll jam to recut Monk on film in rhythmic interplay and harmonic counterpoint with Monk’s solos. We’re also paying homage to Monk’s unique philosophy with musical interludes and spoken word performance.
Should be a fun (and groundbreaking) night!
